A piece of Italy in Friedrichshain, western Berlin. Amazing winery with perfect Italian dishes as well as finger food.
We came here around 9 o'clock, excepting the first guests to have finished their meal (they open at 7). The place was full, and no wonder. The interior was so authentic with loads of wine bottles as well as lit candles on every table. No table was available, but the kind waiters showed us to two available chairs, where we were offered a glass of wine while we waited 5-10 min for a table.
A couple of nights earlier we had walked passed this pearl on Karl-Marx-allé, where we were intrigued from the look on the outside. 4-5 tables were full of people enjoying wine, pasta and cheeses. They sat in the green light from their big neon sign: "Briefmarken" (the stamp). So when we arrived Saturday evening we hoped to get a table outside - and luckily we did.
We ordered their special dish for 2, "Briefmarken Teller" (30€) where they collect all of their specialities. We were served prosciutto, smoked mozzarella, pecorino with truffles and grilled vegetables just to name some of the things. All of which we enjoyed with wine.
We drank three glasses of wine, all recommended by our waiter. We got to taste the wine, and if we didn't approve she found something more suiting for us. All the waiters were so attentive, making sure we weren't lacking bread, water and wine - all in all excellent service!
I will dream about this place for a long time, and I'm jealous that I haven't found the same pearl in Copenhagen - but then again there is yet another reason to return to Berlin.
So if you enjoy wine and the Italian kitchen - please visit the Briefmarken.
This place was amazing in every way. The Italian owner was very attentive and knew his wines very well. Helped me and my friends make wine selections based off what we liked. Decent prices for high quality food and wine.
This is a fantastic little wine bar with a cosy atmosphere inside and a lovely outdoor seating area in the summer where you can relax and watch the world go by on the bustling Karl Marx Allee. The staff are friendly and more than happy to recommend excellent wines, and the antipasti are delicious: you must try the mozzarella. As far as I'm concerned this is the best little wine bar in Friedrichshain.
