African Queen deserves each and every one of the 5 stars. The family, from Eritrea, obviously embraces their culture, because they have done a fantastic job of bringing seemingly authentic flavors, traditions, and experiences to Frankfurt. This was hand down the most delicious East African cuisine we have ever had. The owners and staff were very kind, helpful, and courteous. The experience was much better than we expected. You are served with the traditional style communal plate to eat with your hands (they bring utensils in case). The Eritrean beer, Ma Suwa, was served in a coconut shell. Last, but not least, the decor is perfect, and will give you a little insight on Eritrea. You are sure to have an amazing visit at African Queen.

My family and I enjoyed our experience here! What an amazing taste of flavor from East Africa. It was the most memorable dish from our road trip around Germany. Thank you for the experience, we hope to be back soon!

Soo good, the sour "bread"? was so good and sour! It's like eating a lemon lime tortilla with every bite enhancing all the flavors! We tried the queen combo and it was very good with a good variety of meats and vegetables. The African beers served in bowls was a nice touch. The fruity flavors really come through, almost soda like. Service- we came very late and they were nice enough to stay open and serve us. They came by and explained to us the dishes and sauces, and checked up on us. As this location is very close to the train station, I highly recommend this place!

This is my favorite restaurant in Frankfurt and best Ethiopian food in Germany it is so delicious and the staff are so friendly. My husband and I had the variety platter for 2 for €30 and every bite was phenomenal. There was lamb, beef, chicken, and various vegetable selections. The enjera is perfect! We also had tasty alcohol free fruit cocktails. I absolutely recommend this restaurant! I love this place

Platter for 3 (€40) it was interesting to try African food; eating with our hands. The waitress was extremely nice and assisted us since we didn't know German.

Let me start this review with the following note: If you have an aversion against touching your food with your hands then this place is not for you. Getting messy, doesn't scare me, so I loved every minute of the dinner I shared with a few fellow Yelpers here. I ordered the #20 which comes with minced beef cubes, potatoes and a bit of salad on injera bread. Everything was really tasty but since I enjoy a bit of heat I perused the available spicy condiments quite extensively as well - which resulted in very yummy food that had a nice kick. Quite honestly though: Everything on the table looked delicious - after secretly checking out my dining companion's food I almost feel you cannot go wrong with any order here. The service was also great. The lovely owner not only indulged us with a free injera appetizer as well as an African digestif, but also gave some helpful tips on what to order. And finally the prices were on point as well. Around 10€ for a main dish is definitely fair. I will certainly come back try more of their food.

Nice restaurant in Frankfurt: great customer service and the food was delicious. It was just what I needed after a long business week. I tried the African queen dish which was "Delhi, qulwa-lahm, rindfleisch, and vegetarisch Auf injera serviet"" Next time I am in Frankfurt I will check them out again.

Decided to come to African Queen last night for my friends birthday dinner. We were recommended this place by fellow Yelpers and knew we had to try it out for ourselves. When we arrived, we were surprised by how nicely decorated everything was and very happy that we didn't have to sit on low stools to enjoy our meal like other Eritrean restaurants in the area. The place is warm and inviting. The staff is beyond friendly and helpful. Our waitress explained the menu to us, let us know the types of beer available and let us know the Wifi password. She was so warm and welcoming, it was a pleasant surprise to have such great service. We drank the Mango beers, Dju Dju, it was served in a coconut bowl, very delicious. We decided to order the 4 person platter which had a mix of everything from the menu. It was a steal for only €10 a person!! Our food arrives 15 minutes later and everything looked delicious and vibrant. We began eating and everyone loved the food. I can't say exactly what was on the platter but it featured a variety of seasoned meats, vegetarian side dishes, and the speciality bread used to pick up the food. The meat was so delicious, cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. My favorite were the chicken drumsticks, I could probably eat a whole plate of that alone. Everything on the platter was well seasoned, well prepared and flavored perfectly. The waitress mentioned that we can order more vegetarian sides and bread if we wanted more to eat. We did that and were promptly brought more side dishes, free of charge. The dipping sauce and spicy powders were also good and very fresh. We devoured our platter and we were stuffed. It was so good that we joked about ordering another platter. We made payment and we were informed that they accept all forms of payment, which is hard to find in Frankfurt. Overall this place is a gem. I am a huge fan and can't believe I didn't know about this restaurant long before. I love that they make their customers feel so welcome and I appreciate that they work so hard to keep their customers happy. Most of all I am happy they cook such amazing food. Will definitely be back.

I came here recently and was really impressed! Apparently, the African Queen is the oldest African restaurant in Frankfurt. The African Queen specializes in Ethiopian (and I believe Eritrean) food. The woman who greeted us (I think the owner) was excellent! She was super patient with us and really friendly. She also made some great recommendations. I can't currently drink alcohol so I was pleased that they could make a delicious mixed drink (very similar to a Pina Colada) without alcohol. I had 3 they were so good. They also have flavored beers. My husband got the coconut flavored beer that he drank out of a coconut shell-like container, which he enjoyed. Finally, they have a dish that comes with a variety of African foods that you can share (there are different options depending on your group size--we got the 3-person one for our group of 3). I really enjoyed it and thought it was an excellent way to sample some different African foods. Finally, you can make a reservation on Open Table and earn points! I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

**PLEASE NOTE: THIS PLACE HAS UNDERGONE NEW MANAGEMENT SINCE 2014... SO REVIEWS OLDER THAN 2014 MAY REFLECT A DIFFERENT RESTAURANT ENTIRELY (THE RESTAURANT ALSO HAD A FACELIFT THAT LASTED A MONTH IN 2015!)** I went back here last weekend for my anniversary dinner and it was on point as always!!! The manager is so helpful and treats customers with such respect. She brought my boyfriend and me a free appetizer (although tasted maybe more like dessert). I just can't get enough of this place! Worthwhile place to spend money and have a different type of cuisine if you're not used to eating Eritrean/Ethiopian.

Excellent and fast service, clozy atmosphere with lots of culture decorations, very interesting cuisine for anybody who is new to African food. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Our waitress even explained the menu to us =)

Overall this is a pretty good place, though there are aspects of their menu that seem to be more suitable to German habits than North African cuisine (but, of course, if folks are choosing a place to find North African food, they want to leave German idiosyncrasies behind). In any case, beware that the vegetarian sambusa is basically a spring role shaped like a triangle and not an authentic sambusa, that watery white lettuce and tomato wedges (entirely out place) will be placed around the edges making the injera wet and soggy around the edges; and that instead of eating with injera you'll be invited to use forks (who does that?). If you can strip these inauthentic aspects away from the experience you are in for a real treat.

In my opinion, the African Queen is the best restaurant from amazing food to the world's friendliest owner, it is truly a delightful experience to eat there. The food is of exceptional value and never fails to leave you full and happy. They have a fantastic platter for 3 people where you get to try a vast range of east African cuisine. There is also a great selection of fruit beers to work your way through while you are eating. The owner is very friendly and accommodating and really enhances your experience there, recommending dishes for you and ensuring your meal is as good is it possibly can be.

Fantastic experience. The owner was delightful, spoke both English and German, and gave us pointers on finding the perfect meal. The injera was just how I like it and the meat was divine. The only complaint I have is that there was slightly too much meat for my tastes - I would have been happier with slightly more veggie-based food on the platter, but it's entirely possible that we were pegged as new-to-African-food and given a meat-heavy selection from the menu. Either way, a heavily-recommended restaurant. 10/10, would happily return. Inexpensive prices, delicious food, welcoming and friendly faces.

Actually might have been the best Eritrean/Ethiopian restaurant I have ever been to. Super friendly staff. Cozy atmosphere. Love the cow skins on the seats. And OMG. The food was totally first-rate. Delicious. Fresh. Spicy. Perfect. Really perfect. I'll be back next year for sure!
