Outstanding! best japanese omakase in germany. refreshing service!
Nagaya really never disappoints. It's expensive yes but I'd say you get the best sushi in whole Germany. Quality, taste and everything. I've had sushi in the US, in Japan and many other countries. Nagaya is definitely a masterclass of making quality tasty sushi.
If you love sushi and you understand the different layers of quality. This is your spot. The tasting menu is also worth an experience but I personally go there to order sushi a la carte.
One of only a few sushi restaurants I have had the pleasure of enjoying that presents a truly remarkable experience.
The service was excellent, the ambiance muted, and the food itself was of the highest quality, freshest ingredients, immaculately presented.
Although, the cloud of dry ice smoking from under one of the plates may have been a bit too much. (Photo).
I cannot wait to return.

I was eagerly waiting to arrive in Düsseldorf last night for two reasons a) I had been driving for a few hours and b) I did not want to be late to dinner here ;-)) if I could give this place 6 stars I would. This is exquisite Japanese cuisine served in a very nice setting. It was hard to believe it is in Germany. Düsseldorf is the hub of Asian cuisine in Germany and, I saw this place some time ago and reserved to come for dinner. Reservations are a must as it was pretty full last night.
The menu is extensive here and you can choose either a la carte options or, the Omakase menu, which is a tasting menu with tons of courses. I chose the Omakase and I am glad I did. It was an explosion of flavours and texture, and something, I have rarely experienced in a Japanese restaurant anywhere in the world. This is cutting edge Japanese cuisine that aims to awaken your senses. Of course it is not cheap but I would happily pay to eat here again :-)))
The restaurant has a nice ambience and there is no specific dress code. Most people were in suits but I did see a few in jeans and shirts as well. It's white table cloth and clean and crisp dressed wait staff. The emphasis here is on minimalism and all the dishes are presented in a similar way. The staff speak good English, German and of course Japanese. I chose to go with the waiters / sommeliers recommendation for a sake flight and some red wine at the end followed by dessert sake. It was an expensive drinks round but I would gladly do it again.
The flavours here are exquisite and I loved it. The goose liver lollipop was simply out of this world, and their house speciality. The Toro (tuna belly sashimi) is probably the best I have ever had. The steak was cooked to perfection and was an explosion of flavour and, the poached Canadian lobster was also incredible. The chocolate mousse with Fiji Apple to finish was an exceptional dessert and, there was nothing about this meal I did not like. The service was a tad slow at the start, but it picked up and, was great by the end.
The only downside here is the price of the food. I know the ingredients are exceptional and super fresh but it is expensive. The drinks are equally expensive and it does end up, being an expensive night out. Having said that, I would happily part with my money again for such an exceptional meal :-)) give yourself the time to come and dine here and enjoy the flavour sensation that follows.
I will definitely be back here again and look forward to my next visit. I think this place deserves a couple of Michelin stars and perhaps, one of two or three Asian restaurants in Germany that have earned a Michelin star.
My #1 go to spot when visiting Dusseldorf for work. Excellent service and the sushi presentations are as beautiful as some of the restaurants places that I have visited in Japan. Nagaya has it right!
We went back to Nagaya tonight after a 6 months break. This Japanese restaurant in downtown Duesseldorf is simply amazing, and I mean world class innovation and quality. Chef Nagaya and his wife run this restaurant like a well oiled gourmet machine.
I always have the Omakase menu which has gotten Pricey at 170 Euro but is still an incredible experience well worth the cash. After 10 years of coming to Nagaya the Chef has continued to out due himself with new innovations that are too many to list here. He is now the only Japanese restaurant with a Michelin star and it is well deserved.
If you love true Japanese food (not just Sushi) including variations on Wagyu, king crab, scallops, etc all served in an innovative and taste bud exploding style you have to make the investment to go to Nagaya.
It has been an innovative and evolving experience for 10+ years. I always have extra Toro as it is world class - flown in every day.
It's not every day bit it is unforgettable.
This style is trying NOBU style .
Try Elegant , Beautiful .
NOBU is best in USA , I believe it .
Every sushi chef respects Mr NOBU in the world .
I respect him ,too.
I love this style.
Take the kids out of the room! This is the real deal! Great menu, nice wine and sake selection to go with. The food is absolutely great. Rich in details and technique. Oh and of course flavor. Lots of it! Decoration could be a bit better but its ok .
One of the best sushi I've tried in Europe. Some people here compare it to Nobu in the US/Japan. I went to many Michelin-starred Japanese restaurants in Japan and several Nobu (Tokyo, Miami, LA, Moscow) and I guarantee you that this Nagaya is much better. It's about the food, not the scene. Superb service. I've tried their shorter version Omakase with Kobe beef upgrade - mouth watering! Fantastic selection of sushi, sashimi. Some other very creatives dishes I've never tried before were exceptional as well. If you love Japanese food and in Dusseldorf, this place is a must! Advance reservation is advised...
Perfection.
Amazing food (pretty similar to what you find in great restaurants in Japan) and well prepared, friendly staff. Will always return!
The cod fish is the best in town! :)
Nagaya is not only the best Japanese restaurant in Dusseldorf, it's one of the best I have been to anywhere (and I lived in Tokyo for two years).
Food quality, presentation and service are both exemplary, I cannot recommend it highly enough - it's a slam-dunk 5 stars. Lunchtime set-course menu is outstanding value for the quality.
Nagaya has moved to Klosterstr. and if you like Nobu you will love this place.
The miso black cod is to die for and the chef will be more than happy to prepare you anything that is not on the menu.
The service is good and accommodating and the interior simple but not what I would call intimate (maybe more so up front).
Definately the place to go if you have a chance!
My meal at Nagaya was one of the best I've ever eaten! I was recently in Europe for 6 weeks and had the opportunity to eat at Joel Robuchon in Monte Carlo and Bouquinistes in Paris. Nagaya was certainly as good or bettter than either of them! (and they were spectacular!) And the presentation at Nagaya was like a work of art....
After the crab amuse bouche I had tuna tartare topped with Russian caviar in a soy "pool", followed by a wagyu beef sushi roll with truffles and then honey-miso black cod with baby vegetables. For dessert I had cookie crumble topped with fresh, house made lime sorbet with rasperry foam. The maitre'd recommended a fabulous Pinot Noir that complimented the meal perfectly.
The dining experience was magnificent. The white glove (yes, white glove!) service was impeccable. My lunch lasted over two hours and I enjoyed every minute and every morsel. I highly recommend Nagaya when you are in Germany!
Die beste sushi in Deutschland!!! Preis und qulitäts des Essens stimmen überein!
Will not disappoint. Excellent sushi. Make a reservation first. Also, they have a relatively big selection of fish.
Nagaya is simply the best Japanese restaurant in the German-Japanese capital of Germany: Düsseldorf. The food is very creative, top quality and always comes in a nice presentation.
I liked them when they still had the basement location in Carlstadt but the new location is also stylish and very simplistic.
I will be back for many more servings
Hard to give a vote:
3 for the food quality
4 for the atmosphere and the service (not perfect)
5 for the presentation of foods
so if you want to impress your girlfriend and you're not afraid to spend 100 euros each, that's a good choice.
But as for food, there are better sushi at one third of the price.
They have a wonderful Japanese (fusion)type of dishes. Not only the taste, but each dish is just like a one piece of art and it is just amazing. My boss also loves here!

Was ein Erlebnis...
